As today falls between Mother’s Day and Memorial Day we want to share with you a special piece from our company and family archive.  Gregory P. Connolly II was the second generation of leadership here at Connolly.  Greg was the eldest son of one of the four founding brothers, Stephen John Connolly.  Greg ran the company from the mid-1920s to the early 1960s – quite a time during the Great Depression and World War II.  Greg served in the US Army 102nd Infantry Yankee Division during World War I.  Along with a Purple Heart, Greg received the Silver Star which is the third highest personal decoration for valor and gallantry in action.  Attached is the cover of a YMCA Mother’s Day pamphlet – these pamphlets were distributed in May 1918 to deployed troops to write to their Mothers.  Greg sent this one from France to his Grandmother in Beverly Farms, it reads:

“My dear Grandma, Of course I never think of my Mother without thinking of you, for to me Mother’s Day is also Grandmother’s day.  My Love, Greg”

In honor of both Mother’s Day and Memorial Day, we give thanks to our Mother’s and Grandmother’s and we would like to commemorate all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.
